  • Essay / Humanity's Battle Against Nature - 1079

Humanity's Battle Against NatureDue to the devastation caused by the dropping of the atomic bomb, humanity only used nuclear weapons twice during the war. In August 2026: There Will Come Soft Rains, the author, Ray Bradburry, writes about a nuclear holocaust in 2026. He talks about a house that serves the nuclear explosion, and the house, equipped with advanced technology, performs daily activities to help the Fetherstone family. The house is the only thing left in Allendale, California after a nuclear explosion destroyed the entire town. The house features state-of-the-art technology, including a stove that prepares breakfast and disposes of uneaten food, a voice clock that rings throughout the house to remind the Fetherstones to wake up and go to work, mice robots that clean the whole house every day at 9:15 a.m. , bath water that works on a timer and even a cigar dispenser that lights a cigar for Mr. Featherstone and removes the ashes from the cigar. Through descriptive literature, Ray Bradburry writes a short story about the fall of humanity when technology overtakes humanity, which ultimately shows how neither man nor machine can defeat nature. From the beginning of the story, Bradburry uses specific word choice to show the plight of humans. The story begins in Allendale, California, at seven o'clock to be exact, on August 24, 2026. There is a voice clock in the living room that alerts the Featherstones that it is time to start the day. The kitchen's automated stove prepares a hearty breakfast of eight pieces of toast, eight eggs, 16 slices of bacon, two cups of coffee and two glasses of milk. Judging by the food and drink order we can agree that 2 adults and 2 children live in the house. At ten o'clock, the author writes the...... middle of paper...... symbolizing the dawn of a new day. Ultimately, Bradurry shows the gist of There Will Come Soft Rains about how nature will conquer all. Dropping the bomb on Hiroshima and Nagosaki was truly devastating. Throughout the story, Bradburry shows how technology will never win against nature and how the downfall of man is caused by technology. I think technology is advancing too quickly and, at first glance, Bradburry might agree. Technology is a great tool to the point of surpassing human life. This story showed how advanced technology, with all its gadgets and gadgets, could never win a war against nature, which is the main point of Bradburry's There Will Come Soft Rains.
