Essay / Missing child in the film "Prisoners" - 2260
Inmate in prisoner captivityWritten by Aaron Guzikowski and directed by Denis Villeneuve, the film Prisoners was released in fall 2013 (IMDb). While the film offers a universal theme: “What would you do if your child disappeared? ", although it features a substantial plot riddled with religious references and symbols, filled with twists and turns and a superb cast of well-known actors, the film fails due to the predictability of its plot, an unsatisfying ending and depictions of characters who fall into unflattering stereotypes. Written in 2007, Guzikowski states that Prisoners began as "a little short story that I wrote for my own amusement" (quoted in Prison Break). . In the Prison Break interview, Guzikowski reveals that the film's storyline has been around almost as long as the story itself and that unlike most films, the storyline has remained intact and unchanged. After several years, with several different directors and actors in mind, the film finally came to fruition with the arrival of Denis Villeneuve (Prison Break). Guzikowski and Villeneuve made "some changes together" (quoted in Prison Break), and in the interview, Guzikowski says, "I made the detective character a little bigger and made it a little more two-person, but Beyond that, it never really changed. » The idea for the film is based on every parent's worst nightmare. The concept-based plot is filled with twists and turns, captivating the audience. This film succeeds in creating the desired feeling of suspense through its sonic music and creates heightened emotions by shooting on location and often in the middle of the night. Filmed in realistic color, the story takes place on Thanksgiving and the following days. Scenes are often shot outside, in the cold...... middle of paper ......iliary in the film with examples in August: Osage County and Blue Jasmine, both also released in 2013 Although the viewer was given enough clues and details to draw their own conclusion at the end of the Prisoners film, it is an unsatisfying ending. This conclusion is perhaps just another subtle callback to the title, as the viewer is psychologically detained by the unrealized resolution of this particular film.
