If there is a climate of trust and respect within the class, students are more likely to meet class expectations and accomplish what they have been asked to do (Blance, 2003). To create a classroom where students trust and respect each other, I will examine how Glasser's Choice Theory (1998) and Total Behavior can be used to minimize behavioral problems and promote self-management. I will also examine how behavior and learning are linked and how relationship building can help promote internal control. I think it is important that at the beginning of the new school year, the teacher sets up a college class to maximize learning outcomes. In my class, I want the children to be involved in the lessons, I want them to feel happy and therefore want to be in my class. I want students to view learning as relevant and have the opportunity to reflect and evaluate their work so they can develop further. I want to teach students to take responsibility for their behavior and teach them to use self-control and self-management skills by being a primary manager (Blance, 2010). I believe it is important to emphasize social learning outcomes and provide students with opportunities to learn the skills needed to get along. The means by which I will attempt to achieve these objectives are developed in the following paragraphs.
