Essay / Indeed, evidence has shown that our culture may be different in a sense that involves much of the same. Our culture shows variations between this story because our society contains conflicts where everything is the same in The Giver. Another difference is Jonas' sensitivity to pain which seems amplified compared to the pain humans actually feel. A third aspect of this story that concerns modern society is the fear of being entrusted with great responsibility for the first. One thing that is exploited in this book is the lack of societal conflict. It is almost inevitable to come across this theme in the book, as it contrasts with our way of life. In our society, we tend to let ourselves be nourished by our differences. This leads to both conflict and cooperation. However, the book culture seems to fear this lifestyle, because it cannot bear the pain caused by social conflicts. The following quote confirms that this society of identity cannot retain memories of pain and diversity. The Giver said to Jonas: “If you go somewhere else, that will mean that the community will be there....
