Essay / The importance of the food pyramid - 2040
The importance of the food pyramidThe food pyramid plays an important role in the health education of the majority of people in the United States. It aims to guide the general healthy public on how to eat healthily to stay healthy. It includes a wide variety of foods to provide a healthy range of nutrients needed every day. The food pyramid is a great way to educate the public on how to eat healthily. The new food guide pyramid also includes exercise. It is a way of universally educating people. The Food Guide Pyramid is not a way to cure anything or solve immediate problems; they are guidelines that help people understand what they should eat. The food pyramid is intended for people without any particular pathology, aged 2 and over. It's a way to promote variety in food and help people understand what's good for them. The food guide pyramid includes foods that do not promote chronic diseases. Foods that cause chronic disease are avoided in the food guide pyramid. As research increases, the food guide pyramid grows with it. The Dietary Guidelines are updated every 5 years; this is what provides all the information for the food guide pyramid. Since the first food guide pyramid, it has greatly improved thanks to the research that has been done. It is definitely progressing with the most recent information available. It's what's best for the public (Carole Davis). The food guide pyramid is now well known in the United States and is taught in schools as a guide to healthy eating and healthy living. The first guidelines for a healthy diet were published in the USDA's Framers Bulletin in 1894. WO Atwater was the primary researcher on this subject and wrote these guidelines. Early guidelines suggested that American men's diets consisted of proteins, carbohydrates, fats, and "minerals." Atwater also talked about overeating being a bad thing. (Davis and Saltos, 1999). It's interesting because today it's what professionals should avoid. The first food guide for children, “Food for Young Children,” was published in 1916 by the USDA. This guide included five food groups: milk and meat, cereals, vegetables and fruits, fats and fatty foods, and sugars and sweet foods. (Davis and Saltos, 1999) Then there was a guide published in 1917 for the general public...... middle of paper ......the pyramid of guides is a way of educating the public about his best interest, so that he can be healthy. The food pyramid is not designed to harm others but to benefit them. The food pyramid is best for most people. This promotes the own interests of each individual.
