  • Essay / Famine - 854

If there is enough food in the world to feed everyone, then why are there so many hungry and malnourished people? Millions of people die of hunger every day. We must find a way to end world hunger. Starvation is a major global problem due to overpopulation. Currently, more than 800 million people suffer from hunger or malnutrition. Around 98% of the world's hungry people live in developing countries. In these countries, most hungry people live in rural areas. In fact, Asia has approximately 553 million people dying of hunger, Africa 227 million, Latin America 47 million, and developed countries 16 million. Most of them involve children, the elderly and hard-working adults. around one in eight people suffer from malnutrition and this figure will soon increase. The causes of famine are numerous, such as poverty, lack of agriculture, economic difficulties or war. In developed countries, such as the United States, poverty is the leading cause of hunger. In other countries, lack of agriculture might be the case. Some places do not have fertile soil or have rocky hills, making cultivation difficult. In other places, the climate might not be suitable for growing. Due to economic difficulties, countries may not have enough money to import food products. If a nation is at war, then people might not be able to obtain food safely or be starved by adversaries. Starvation has different stages, and in each stage, starvation will cause more damage to a person's body. The first stage of starvation occurs when blood sugar levels are stable due to the production of glucose from glycogen. Glycogen is used for energy. Secondly, stored fat is used as energy. Finally, on the third ...... middle of paper ...... all the shelters for the homeless and people who are starving. The course of action I suggest will also persuade more people to donate, because if they have proof that their donation is helping people, more donors will want to help even more people who are starving. The United States will be the number one priority in my course of action. We will be able to significantly reduce hunger here, and then we can start focusing on developing countries. If we reduce most of the hunger in the United States, then we can build a stronger economy. We would have fewer people benefiting from government programs and our tax dollars would be used for other purposes to help the country. Overpopulation causes many problems, but with the right solutions we can live in a better world. Famine has the potential to have a major impact on the world. With the action plan I suggest, we could significantly reduce famine.
