    The end of the Vietnam War did not end the problems that the war raised in the United States. The 1970s became a time of violence and distrust of government. The Watergate scandal was the high point of government speculation and ended with the impeachment of President Nixon. This distrust has carried over into the current state of American society and politics, where people constantly feel like they are being deceived and lied to by government officials. Additionally, there is a huge divide between those for and against government intervention in other countries. Public support for operations in the Middle East is divided, much like in the middle of the Vietnam War.
