William Carlos Williams attended Horace Mann High School, where he began practicing poetry. He began attending after returning to the United States, with his mother and brother. Around this time, he also decided to pursue his dream of becoming a doctor and writer. When he finished high school, he enrolled at Philadelphia University. He was a 19-year-old student, he went to study in the medical field and received a doctorate in medicine. Before he started working full time at the hospital, he was an intern. He later became a full-time doctor and remained in the medical field for at least forty years. After university, he devoted himself more to his personal writings. His writings are important to literature because he was instrumental in helping young poets. Many poets who have big names were also trained by William. “He personally mentored Theodore Roethke and Charles Olson, who were instrumental in the development of Black Mountain College poetry and later influenced many other poets. Robert Creeley and Denise Levertov, two other poets associated with Black Mountain, studied under Williams. Williams was friends with Kenneth Rexroth, the founder of the San Francisco Renaissance. A lecture Williams gave at Reed College was formative in inspiring three other important members of this Renaissance: Gary Snyder, Philip Whalen, and Lew Welch. Williams' writing was very different from others of his time. The different varieties of writings he wrote have inspired many writers today. He changed the way some writers write in this world. Such a good poet, essayist and doctor throughout time. Williams was very inspiring on how I will continue my life. He was not just an exceptional writer or doctor, but a role model. After researching him, I discovered that you can be anything you want, and if it turns out to be two things, so be it. If others don't see it, he has set the bar high to achieve his dreams. He had two passions and pursued them both throughout his life. He was more than successful; he was beautiful and brilliant.
