According to the American Library Association, traits that an individual leader must possess include: being a good listener, a good persuader and influencer, tolerating stress well, demonstrating bravery and/or courage, and being able to adapt to changes. A leader must also be disciplined, self-aware, competent and decisive. Leadership also involves putting personal biases aside when making decisions. It is important that leaders are passionate about their organization, their employees and their work. A leader is able to collaborate and work well with others. They also ask for help when needed. A leader with appropriate leadership skills will give credit and recognition to others who do good work (Leadership Traits, n.d.). Leadership skills develop over time
