  • Essay / Social norms - 815

Social norm is a way of dressing, speaking, beliefs, attitudes and behaviors. Most people in this world define themselves through their clothes, their hairstyles and their experiences. Each person behaves differently, due to differences in traditions, cultures, education and experiences. The environment and social norms directly affect a person's behavior. How we behave is not right or wrong, but only what our society allows us to do. In our society, we have a certain number of social norms that we accept. For example, in how we should behave in public, it is important that we distance ourselves from strangers and respect our elders. The family is one of the first ways that children begin to develop their understanding of social norms. Parents are constantly teaching their children what is appropriate and what is not. All societies have norms, expectations that guide the behavior of their members. Here in America, we are supposed to greet others with a smile and a handshake. For example, lawyers and businessmen wear a suit and tie to work to appear professional. When someone sneezes they cover their mouth, it would be rude to use your phone at a funeral or in church. If we broke any of these rules, we would probably be considered weird or rude and probably feel embarrassed. Every day we make hundreds of thousands of choices and decisions while interacting with others, we do what is expected of us. I believe change is possible. Each of us is responsible for ourselves. We can sit around and make excuses for our problems. However, we can also take responsibility for seeing what changes are needed and then trying to change them. For example, a person's clothing style is ma...... middle of paper...... ety believes. The way they dress makes people feel like they are gang and that is why they will fight these negative allegations and continue to show the world their true culture. Overall, clothes act as a mirror to the person's behavior. Good, clean and ironed clothes show a clear image of a person. Clothes change behavior and make us act like what we wear. Expensive clothes make us feel like a rich man, it makes us feel like a professional person. When people wear an expensive dress, they behave very elegantly and feel very rich in these clothes, which changes their attitude and the way they speak. Clothes also keep an impression on other people. If a person wears old, dirty and worn clothes, it gives a negative impression. On the other hand, wearing clean, pressed, well-ironed clothes gives a positive impression of that person, especially during job interviews..
