ComparisonsAs noted earlier, the Olympic Games have become a mega-event in terms of size and complexity compared to what they were in their early days at the Games Athens Olympics of 1896, when only 241 amateur athletes competed in mini sports. Therefore, the number of risks that can arise during the event has increased significantly, including aspects such as infrastructure, finances, operations, security, as well as natural hazards as well as originating risks human. As London has experienced various terrorist attacks in the past, such as the July 7, 2005 bombings in which terrorists targeted civilians; terrorists killed 52 people, injuring 700 others in an attack on the public transport system (BBC News, 2006). It is also working to prevent another terrorist attack such as the 1972 Munich massacre, which occurred during the Summer Olympics of the same year. During this attack, 11 members of the Israeli Olympic team were killed by terrorists demanding the release of 234 prisoners held in Israel as well as two founders of the German Armed Faction (Rosenberg, 2014). Another risk that mega-events such as the Olympic Games can face is the risk of not being able to maintain financial controls, such as going over what has been agreed on the budget. For example, during the 1976 Montreal Olympics, organizers were faced with the problem of having to modify the velodrome when they discovered that the subsurface was weak and unstable; an aspect that was missing from the geological studies carried out at the beginning.
