  • Essay / Advantages and Disadvantages of Living in a Multi-Ethnic Society

A multi-ethnic society is one that includes people of different races, religions, cultures, backgrounds, etc. Multi-ethnic societies can have many negative and negative aspects. positive effects that I will explain in the following paragraphs. The advantages of living in a multi-ethnic society are that you meet new people and learn interesting things about them. People have the chance to understand others and realize that they are equal to us. This makes people less ignorant and changes the stereotypical opinions they may have previously held due to the influence of the media or their friends/relatives. We begin to respect them more and understand their views on specific topics. This might help people become less racist. You also have the opportunity to learn a variety of new languages. If you learn Spanish at school, for example, you can practice it by talking to someone who has already lived there. You have the opportunity to expand your knowledge about the outside world by learning interesting facts from people from different cultures. This makes life more interesting and less repetitive, because without a multi-ethnic society everyone would be the same and we wouldn't know many new things. We would not know certain religions like Buddhism, Hinduism and Sikhism. The only known religion would be Christianity, so people would not be able to choose from a wide range of religions as is the case today. Additionally, beautiful buildings such as mosques and temples would not exist. Our country would be much more boring and uninteresting. A multi-ethnic society can bring new ideas and ways of doing things into the daily lives of people living in Britain. If we didn't live in a multi-ethnic society, many of the things we take for...... middle of paper ...may have a good afterlife. They have a purpose in life and care about what happens to them. Religious people share their beliefs among other things and help people convert to their own religion. This means that more people are becoming religious. Religious people do not criticize those who are not religious, they respect everyone's opinion and do not force them to do anything that creates less arguments. Buddhists, for example, believe in karma, meaning that all of one's actions, good or bad, create past, present, and future experiences, thus making one responsible for their own life. This means that they are more likely to perform good deeds because they believe that good deeds will result in a better life. If everyone believed in this philosophy, the world would be filled with less hatred, crime and sin, creating a more harmonious society. By Harriet Hales
