Essay / Growth of Islam in the United Kingdom - 1577
The Middle East – a region of the Arabian Nights, but also a place of Islamic religion, which spread to many European countries in the over the last decades. The United Kingdom is one of the countries where the Islamic religion plays a major role. According to the 2011 census, 4.8% of people living in the UK identify as Muslim and, what's more, almost half of them were born there. The largest increase in this religion was recorded in the under 25 age group. These figures reveal that the Islamic religion is the second most common religion in the UK, just after Christianity. Additionally, the number of Christians has declined. The question everyone needs to answer is whether or not to worry about it. And what did former Libyan leader Muammar Al-Gaddafi say about Muslim immigration to Europe? “We have fifty million Muslims in Europe. Muslims were seen as cheap labor, which was profitable for Britain, especially after World War II, when Britain needed to rebuild its economy. The majority of Muslims who came to Britain were Pakistani and, even today, the majority of Muslims who live in the UK are of Pakistani origin. In the UK there are over a thousand mosques, prayer rooms and community centers..... . middle of paper ......b The Emirates and Yemen are Islamic and all punish conversion from Islam with the death penalty. Therefore, citizens of Maldives must be Muslims and any other religion is punishable by death penalty. What would happen if Sharia courts in Britain were approved as equivalent to the UK courts and came to power? Would such extremism be possible even in Europe? In summary, the statistics speak for themselves and Britain's fear of becoming an Islamic state is certainly not exaggerated. There is no doubt that the number of Muslims in the UK has increased at an alarming rate in recent decades. There are some issues that should not be ignored or neglected, for example the Sharia courts in Britain.
