In The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Nick Carraway shares a very strange relationship with Jordan Baker during the summer of 1922. Nick, the narrator of the novel, begins to have feelings towards Jordan . , his cousin's long-time friend. The two first meet in East Egg when Nick visits his cousin, Daisy, and her husband, Tom Buchanan, who Nick was associated with at college. Jordan was sitting on the couch and seemed to ignore Nick's entrance. The relationship between the two begins awkwardly and seems to stay on that path throughout the novel. Jordan is quite different from other women of her time. She has different beliefs and values than others. She is depicted as an empowered woman, which is atypical for women of the 1920s. Fitzgerald portrays Jordan as a masculine figure. One of the first things we find out about this woman is that she is a professional golf player. In the 1920s, it was quite rare to find a woman golfer. The first time Nick meets Jordan, he describes her as "a slim, small-breasted girl with an erect figure." »....
