  • Essay / Cultural and Social Impacts of the Internet - 1146

The Internet is one of the most innovative creations in the world in recent years. The Internet is capable of connecting billions of people living thousands of miles away, where they can almost feel a sense of closeness and camaraderie. This allowed education to soar and businesses to increase profits. It gave people the opportunity to work and succeed. However, everything has a price; everything has a fall. People claim that the Internet has helped end the diversity of humanity, which can be an advantage or a disadvantage depending on which side of the fence one is on. The main questions that arise are: do the advantages of the Internet outweigh the disadvantages and is the Internet causing a downfall of cultures and society? People all over the world have access to the Internet. These people understand almost all religions and cultures from almost all countries. Since almost all nationalities and cultures have access to the Internet, people are likely to mix their beliefs and even lie about things they believe or people they know they believe. Does this undermine the foundations of people’s cultures? If you use the Internet often, you are probably aware of the various debates about beliefs that take place on the Web. Because of these conflicts, people form uneducated and often biased opinions for people they disagree with, whether it be religious, cultural, or political beliefs. Is this right for anyone? Too often, people have become filled with hatred or disgust because of the comments of others about their beliefs or lifestyle. This happens every day, everywhere. With the Internet bringing together billions of people and thousands, if not millions, of lifestyles, one could argue that the Internet has made the problem exponentially worse. Then again... middle of paper... their security system, and companies could have secret information stolen. Right now, you could be losing personal information to someone you've never met. However, living in constant fear is not living at all. The Internet makes daily life easier for billions of people and has given new life to others. The world is not perfect, so we cannot have a perfect Internet, but efforts are being made every day to make the web better and more secure. Is the Internet worth it? It depends on your own opinion.
