Charlemagne, called Charles the Great and Charles I, was a lord of France, as well as an authentic figure of invocation. Charlemagne is believed to have been conceived around 742. He became king of the Franks in 768. Charlemagne's father, King Pepin (the Little), officially ended the Merovingian line of rulers to become king of the Franks, and wanted Francia to be isolated between Charlemagne and his brother Carloman upon his death in 768. The divided rule was fleeting. When Charlemagne was chosen king of the Franks, his nation officially included most of France, the majority of the Netherlands and Belgium, a large part of Switzerland, and a significant part of Germany. This is how Charlemagne was described by his biographer Einhard: “Charles was tall and strong, and of tall stature, but not disproportionately tall (his height is well known to have been seven times the length of his foot); the top of his head was round, his eyes very large and lively, his nose a little long, his hair blond and his face laughing and joyful. Thus his appearance was always majestic and dignified, whether he was standing or sitting; although his neck was thick and somewhat short, and his belly rather prominent; but the symmetry of the rest of his body hid these defects. His gait was firm, his appearance manly and his voice clear, but not as strong as his size suggested. In the following chapter, he describes his clothing style: “He wore the national, that is to say the franc, dressing according to his skin in a linen shirt and breeches, and over a tunic fringed with silk. […] he protected his shoulders and chest in winter with a fitted coat made of otter or marten skin...... middle of paper ......n, Charlemagne otherwise called Karl and Charles the Great, was a medieval ruler who controlled much of Western Europe. Charlemagne became king of the Franks, a Germanic tribe living today in Belgium, France, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and western Germany. He left determined to unite all Germanic ethnic groups into one kingdom and believing his subjects in Christianity. A gifted military strategist, he devoted much of his tenure to war with the end goal in mind to achieve his objectives. Pope Leo III delegated Charlemagne leader of the Romans. In this part, he supports the Carolingian Renaissance, a social and scholarly restoration in Europe. At his death, Charlemagne's domain included much of Western Europe and he had also ensured the survival of Christianity in the West. Today, some refer to Charlemagne as the father of Europe..
