The Runaway JuryJohn Grisham is known for writing fiction books on legal issues. John Grisham is also one of my favorite authors. My favorite book is The Runaway Jury. I've read The Runaway Jury several times. When I reread The Runaway Jury for this assignment, I focused on the legal issues and now have a new perspective on the issues described in this book. The issues I focused on were selecting an impartial jury and demonstrating the consequences of unethical behavior in law. The Runaway Jury follows the case of Celeste Wood, the widow of Jacob Wood, who died of lung cancer after years of smoking three packs a day. , against Pynex, one of the big four tobacco companies in the United States. The book begins just before jury selection. Tobacco companies have won the majority of all lawsuits so far. Pynex has an account called The Fund that contains millions of dollars to defend these lawsuits and is managed by Rankin Fitch. Mr. Fitch uses the Funds to also pay jurors.
