    If a child knows that he learns more slowly than others, he might think that this is lowering his self-esteem. Diminished self-esteem during the younger years can cause long-term damage to a person; making their lives more difficult than if they had high self-esteem. Even if another student finds out that one of their peers is in the lower proficiency group, they may bully them by calling them vulgar names, which will make it even more difficult for that student they are bullying to learn. Reducing the pace of learning can also decrease the student's level of motivation for education. Some students will not have the motivation to learn if they do not have to surpass themselves. If a student is placed in the wrong group, the speed or slowness with which teachers teach may irritate them. Another factor that could decrease the magnitude of ability grouping is determining the strategies to use when grouping these children. Testing children on the subject would be a great way to know what level of learning they are at, but not all students' test scores will be exactly accurate to their actual educational level. Placing every student in the right group is virtually impossible, but with the right technique and enough thought, every child can be placed in the right group, giving them the opportunity to expand their learning.
