  • Essay / Fluorescence Incandescence in Light Bulbs - 941

Although incandescent bulbs are not as energy efficient as newer alternative halogen bulbs, compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs), and light emitting diodes (LEDs), Incandescent light bulbs should not be phased out solely due to their inefficiency. Phasing out incandescent bulbs will not significantly reduce the level of mercury in the environment; Additionally, incandescent light bulb factories are now closed in the United States due to phasing out, and many people working in the lighting manufacturing industry have lost their jobs. A review of CFLs, one of the most predominant alternatives to incandescent bulbs, can reveal gaps in CFLs' projected life expectancy, their overall quality, and their potential health risks. Instead of phasing out incandescent light bulbs due to their inefficiency, compact fluorescent lights should be banned due to their dangerous qualities. The Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA) of 2007 addresses phase-out dates for various types of incandescent light bulbs that do not meet standards. new efficiency standards. Representative Nick Rahall of West Virginia, along with 198 cosponsors, introduced House Resolution 6, which became the EISA of 2007. The intent of the resolution was to reduce energy consumption and promote national security by reducing dependence on foreign energy sources. In the 310-page resolution Title III – Energy Savings Through Improved Standards for Appliances and Lighting, Subtitle B – Energy Efficiency in Lighting, Sec. 321 Efficient light bulbs concerns the efficiency standards that new lamps/bulbs will have to meet. The incandescent lamp has been around since its beginnings in the 19th century. The chapter titled “Incandescent Lamps” in the book Revolution in Lamps:...... middle of paper ......ting Systems.
