Thai ScottThesis PaperEnglish 43-3-14Concussions in FootballIn today's society, sports are an important part of our culture. People of all ages watch and play all kinds of sports. It's the American way for people to get interested in sports and activities. They are becoming more and more popular over the years. An extremely popular sport in this country is football. Millions of people watch soccer at various levels, including professional, college, and high school. Many younger children, ages 7 or 8, also play Pop Warner. That's great, but one of the recent problems in the sport is the increase in concussions. The number of concussions due to football is constantly increasing and is causing people to question the safety of the game. Many people hear the term "concussion" but probably don't know what it actually is, so what are concussions? A concussion is essentially a bruise to the brain. For example, if you experience a head-to-head collision, your brain may bounce off the inside of your skull, causing this bruise. But it's not just bruising that occurs, but also torn tissue and broken blood vessels on the brain as a result of these collisions. If you don't know much about concussions, this can show you how painful, scary, and dangerous they must be. In a game like football, players hit another player one-on-one more than 40 times per game. How can children ages 7 all the way up to adult men in their 30s deal with this? This is one of the biggest problems in the sport and it needs a solution. When a concussion occurs, everything goes through a specific process. The collision first occurs with a great force on the head. Then a middle of paper ......es should introduce this and not only teach it, but emphasize how important this is for the safety of these athletes. The brain is one of the most important parts of the human body and children and adolescents need to be aware of this in order to stay healthy. In conclusion, I believe the right steps are being taken by those responsible to ensure each year, safety and knowledge about concussions increases and spreads to more and more teams. This is a serious issue that is not taken lightly and is very reassuring for someone who has been playing this game since first grade and has suffered multiple concussions. I hope that one day when I have children, if they want to participate in football, I can put them on the field with the proper equipment and supervision and not have to worry about their safety as much that I should if this problem never existed. supported.
