Imagine this, a young girl wearing her mother's dress and high heels teaching her dolls, or a young boy running around with a red hat and a garden hose. From a young age, many people dream of what they want to become when they grow up. Some individuals pursue this dream; while others abandon it as a childhood fantasy and set out to accomplish something completely different. Whether the career a person chooses is a childhood dream or was decided later in life, he or she should conduct thorough research on that career. This will help determine if a career is truly right for the person. The research also reveals the positive and negative aspects of the career. This helps the individual determine whether only the surface of what the career entails is visible, or whether they will hate the job once the job duties begin to be accomplished. From this research, I want to choose the career that best suits me by learning the necessary education, duties, salary, disadvantages and advantages of teaching high school mathematics. The training needed to become a high school math teacher is similar to the training requirements of becoming any high school educator. To teach mathematics, one would need to obtain a bachelor's degree in mathematics education. Additionally, educators are required to obtain a teaching license in the state in which they plan to teach. In order to receive both a teaching license and a degree, individuals must practice teaching through student teaching. Once a teacher receives their license, they must take courses to keep their teaching license current. Credits from these courses also help teachers advance through the salary program.
