Society provides an individual with the structure they need to thrive in a productive community. Once this structure becomes non-existent, the individual becomes animalistic, relying on their innate, or even wilder, skills to thrive in the world they find themselves in. Many people believe that dystopian literature dehumanizes the individual for a specific purpose. The 20th century dystopian novel by William Golding and Aldous Huxley reflects a similar theme. For example, Lord of the Flies and Brave New World reflect how dehumanization leads to the downfall of society; thus encouraging individuals to return to their natural and wild states.
