  • Essay / Effects of malnutrition in Guatemala - 1092

Rural households are not able to provide adequate infant mortality and infants often receive the same diet as adults in the family. This average diet of corn and beans lacks essential nutrients for infants. The inclusion of vegetable gardens, agriculture and livestock can greatly improve the nutritional situation of children, and subsequently other members of the household. Educating and training women to manage gardens and breastfeed will increase infant nutrient and vitamin levels and improve their diet.
