  • Essay / Misconceptions about Islam By Amin Maalouf - 1028

From the social point of view that the author has on identities and the relationships she maintains with violence, I have the impression that our desire belonging to somewhere, whether that somewhere is good or bad, comes from our lack of identity. By finding a place to fit in, we are able to create an identity from scratch if the identity we had before didn't exist or didn't appeal to us. Regarding the religious aspects of the issues discussed, I believe that extremists of any religious group should be held accountable for their actions, and I agree that the doctrine that the person committed extreme acts should not be considered the source of evil. Because then you create a situation where evil will only fester even more when you blame an entire religious group for the actions of a few. This is where violence comes in, creating wars and other catastrophic events that take a toll on the population.
