INTRODUCTION We always feel like we are behind when we try to keep up with the pace of technology. With the start of the new millennium, computers became the international language. Today, computer is not only the language of people but also of business. The Internet is the tool used by businesses when it comes to e-commerce. In the discussion, I will try to explain how e-commerce influences business in the new world with the considerable development of Internet technology. First, I will define what e-commerce is. Next, I'll highlight some comparisons between traditional commerce and e-commerce. The pros and cons of e-commerce will be the next step. At the end of the discussion and briefly, I will mention e-commerce technologies. Next comes the summary where we find what was covered during the discussion. Finally, I will try to write the conclusion of this assignment. DISCUSSION E-commerce seems to be everywhere in our lives today. You can hardly open a newspaper or magazine without coming across a subject or article on e-commerce, but how do you define e-commerce? What is e-commerce? E-commerce is any commercial transaction carried out electronically using a computer, via Internet technologies, such as the World Wide Web. In other words, it is the purchase and/or sale of goods or services on the web. Additionally, e-commerce included the processing of purchase transactions and fund transfers over computer networks. (Understanding Electronic Commerce, David, 1997, P.2) Meanwhile, electronic commerce is becoming stronger than ever. The Internet has given a boost to e-commerce. E-commerce is the wave of the future allowing businesses of all sizes to sell their products online. It is growing too quickly with the Internet. E-commerce breaks temporal and geographical boundaries at any time by offering a direct agreement with the end customer. This definitely expands business opportunities to satisfy customer demands for products, services and information. E-commerce not only includes transactions of traditional commerce but also generates demand for its goods and services. The definition of e-commerce is rather dynamic. As you learn more about it, you will get a better definition and, over time, even a new, different definition.
