Many erroneous interpretations of the law have distorted public opinion. Many people did not understand the impact the ACA would have on employers and the coverage they would be required to provide. Companies that employ more than 50 employees are required to provide coverage and contribute to the costs or pay fees; however, they are eligible for the Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP) and receive tax breaks to help cover costs (Reisman, 2015). According to Reisman's research, employers with more than 50 but fewer than 100 employees can obtain coverage for their employees through state insurance exchanges and those with fewer than 25 full-time employees are also eligible. tax breaks to help them cover their costs. Another common misconception was that the ACA would provide illegal immigrants with the opportunity to receive health care. The ACA excludes undocumented immigrants from these new coverage options and provides reduced benefits to those legally present (Shaffer, 2013). Some parts of the Affordable Care Act are difficult to understand or conceptualize. An example to understand how the ACA will save money on health care in the long term while it will significantly increase health care spending over this period.
