In many works of literature, characters often have to adapt to life in a new environment. In the novel Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe, a man lives in a society and it is not what he thought. Okonkwo, the main character of the novel, must adapt to new environments not only physically, but also mentally. After unintentionally killing someone, Okonkwo is banished from his clan for 7 years and must move to his homeland, where he has not been since becoming a very famous wrestler. He must adapt to this environment again. Once the 7 years have passed and he returns to his clan, Okonkwo notices that it has changed a lot over time and that he must adapt again. As he moves from place to place, Okonkwo also begins to mentally find himself in a new environment. To begin with, Okonkwo is a very proud and selfish man. Okonkwo wants anything and everything that would put him at a higher level of power in the clan. Furthermore, Okonkwo believes that if things don't turn out the way he wants them to, then they are either bad or wrong. He is unable to adapt to new environments....
