Essay / The impact of fashion in the 1920s - 725
Nothing would be the same today if society had not experienced its most unprecedented transformation that occurred during the 1920s. This famous decade became later known as the Roaring Twenties. It takes its name from the epidemic that shifted the country from a country of conservation to a country of diversification. One of the reasons for this epidemic came from the use of fashion. This alteration occurred mainly in large cities in the west of the country, such as New York. Only later did the southern regions also merge with the new customs. With radically diverse innovation in fashion to express power, wealth, and self-determination, the 1920s became the era of change in society's outlook on lifestyle. Ornaments were the ultimate way for individuals to display their prosperity. Wealthy men were usually seen in suits made from the finest fabrics, which gave them a strong professional introspection. Men like this automatically gained more respect than men from the lower classes, because the more elegant they looked, the more intimidating they became in the eyes of others. Women who wore excessive jewelry and extravagant outfits tended to stand out, making them more desired by men and envied by other women. Author Elizabeth Hurlock described that fashion reflects how a person is perceived by society (Themes in American History). She also said, “One of the primary values of clothing is that it allows people to make themselves known in a way that arouses the attention and admiration of others” (Themes in American History). Those who had the ambition to attract this kind of attention believed that to stand out they had to be diverse and that the best way to do this was to dress luxuriously...... middle of paper. ..... Clothing choices have helped transform the nation into what it is today. Through this radically diverse innovation in fashion, people were able to express their power, wealth, and self-determination in the 1920s, making it the era of change. Fashion in the 1920s.
