But what most people don't know is that it is a serious mental illness that everyone is at risk of developing during their life. This is quite common among the mentally ill. Half of the people hospitalized in psychiatric hospitals have schizophrenia. This mental illness can cause many challenges in everyone's daily life. Many people don't understand what it means to have a mental illness. They don't understand the struggle that mental patients have to go through. People with schizophrenia go through many challenges. To understand what schizophrenia is, you first need to know where it comes from. Kraepelin, Emil (1856-1926) was a German psychiatrist who believed in the physical basis of mental disorders and expressed the need for a scientific and objective approach to understanding mental functioning. Krapelin was the first person to classify schizophrenia as a serious mental illness, but when he first classified it, he named the illness dementia praecox. Kraepelin believed that they were distinct diseases with distinct causes, courses, and outcomes. He died in Munich on October 7, 1926. The name dementia praecox was retained until Eugen Bleuler. I changed the name to schizophrenia. Bleuler was a Swiss psychiatrist, best known for his extensive studies of schizophrenia. He was born in Zürich on April 30, 1857 and received his medical degree at the University of Zürich. Bleuler came to believe that “dementia praecox,” considered a single illness, was in fact a set of psychiatric reactions. He coined the term “schizophrenia” to describe these reactions. This name comes from Gr...... middle of paper ......n neglecting basic personal hygiene. This can make them appear lazy or unwilling to help themselves. But this is not the case, these are actually symptoms of schizophrenia. Cognitive symptoms are subtle. Cognitive symptoms often make it difficult to lead a normal life and earn a living. They can cause great emotional distress. Schizophrenia not only affects the affected person, but also those around them. Patients with mental illnesses face many disadvantages and challenges. Many symptoms accompany it. There are also many beliefs about how this happens in people. But what matters most is finding a cure or better medications to help people with schizophrenia or any other mental illness. Can knowing all this information really help find a cure or do scientists need to delve into something deeper ?.
