What is the greatest innovation of the 20th century? The Web? Something about this spider's web captures the imagination of anyone who has a glimpse of the possibilities. This has led people to spend more and more time online. This has changed the very way civilization transmits basic information on a daily basis. Today's students have had easy access to the Internet their entire lives. Nonetheless, the downsides of this popular pastime continue to grow, as the price of this activity we call “surfing the web” has evolved to become much more than the currency and time we spend with each passing day. One of the most well-known problems caused by the Internet is the addictive properties of simple tasks such as checking notifications or messages, which normally lead to a complete distraction from more important tasks. Although well known, this problem is generally ignored. Whether this was a strategic move by a secret organization to control the minds of every Tom, Dick and Harry is a completely different controversial topic. This “Internet addiction” affects many people and needs to be monitored as it can become a much more serious problem and often requires professional help. Shouldn't we be more worried? In 2012, it was estimated that 23% of European citizens under the age of twenty spent more than five hours a day on some form of online activity. This statistic is completed by 26% who spend on average three to five hours per day, then by the balance of 51% working on average less than three hours. Various psychology departments have shown that the more time spent on the Internet is directly related to the level of concentration an individual can retain in the middle of a paper, be highlighted to the public, but this will not prevent them from happening . However, if the issues discussed are controlled by individual choice, the web will become a safer and more constructive place. Training of children must take place in schools to protect them. The reality of playing and working on the web is addictive...
