How far would someone go if they desperately needed to lose weight? A person who really needs to lose weight would do everything possible to lose the pounds necessary to continue living properly. In the United States, fad diets have proliferated. Fad diets require a strict and unhealthy diet that could put a person's life in danger. The influence of fad diets on society over the years is detrimental to human well-being and must stop. Fad diets should be criminalized because they lack the nutrients needed for proper living, inhibit effective cognitive skills, and cause children to have the wrong perspective on proper nutrition. When a person is on a diet, their weight should be maintained in a healthy manner. If weight is lost quickly, the body will not respond well. Fad diets cause rapid weight loss which may make the user feel fine, but ultimately their health will be terribly affected. “Fad diets…have never worked, and they never will” (Chapman). These diets are recognized as something that actually helps those in need, which is not the case in this day and age. This world does not need these types of regimes since they cannot even do their job properly.
