Women have been discriminated against for many years and have had to overcome many obstacles over time. Growing up in the Deep South, Carter faced a lot of racism and after his presidential term, he decided to change that. Visiting more than a hundred countries with his wife, Jimmy Carter went on to study the inequalities between different types of people; women in particular. Carter's never-ending goal is to end inequality and protect the human rights of all people. A Call to Action: Women, Religion, Violence, and Power focuses on the stories of women around the world and their personal struggles. With the help of several different people, Jimmy Carter is able to share his own experiences with the strong women he meets around the world. All over the world, all sorts of people are being denied some sort of right that should be afforded to them. . Women, in particular, have been denied their rights and monopolized by men throughout history. Although this happens in the United States, this problem is much more apparent in different parts of the world. Inequalities between women increased in different countries and Jimmy Carter began to denounce these horrible situations. Not only does Carter explain the horrific mistreatment of women around the world, but he presents a "call to action" that can help end this madness. Men still place themselves above women and women have been largely forgotten. Today, things are very different and many women play a dominant role in society.
