  • Essay / Is a fetus a person? - 1145

Abortion is a decision that everyone must make for themselves. The main arguments against abortion center on how the fetus is a person; a fetus has rights; and it is morally forbidden to take life. Many consider abortion to be murder. However, a fetus is not a person. There are important traits that one possesses most to be a person, 1) self-awareness, one must be able to make decisions regarding themselves 2) be able to converse with others and maintain a relationship 3) conscience, one must be able to make rational decisions. decisions and thought about it (Warren). An important aspect of being human is the ability to be aware of one's surroundings and make decisions. Being pregnant is not a situation that everyone can experience and the decision to terminate a pregnancy should be left to the woman. A woman has the right to her body and should be able to make decisions about herself without outside judgment. In deciding whether abortion is morally permissible, the strongest argument is that fetuses are innocent beings and that killing an innocent being is morally impermissible. Any being descended from a human makes it a human, and therefore a fetus is human. As a society, we view murder as immoral, especially when it involves an innocent person. Pro-life advocates argue that abortion amounts to murder because life begins at conception, making the fetus a living person. Proponents believe that a fetus has the right to live and wants to live. Abortion violates the fetus's right to life and its ability to become a member of society. It is the mother's duty as a parent to provide for her child in the best way possible, and this does not involve abortion. However, a fetus does not have the characteristics necessary to be a person. The first is... middle of paper ... it's the right for her to have a child. There will never be a universal answer as to whether a fetus is a person or not. Based on the traits that characterize a person, a fetus is not considered a person. He is not alive, he cannot think rationally, and he cannot communicate with others. Therefore, the decision to have an abortion is permissible and does not infringe on the rights of any person. A woman has the right to her body and the choice to abort if she deems it necessary. The argument that abortion is allowed relies on one's beliefs about what constitutes a person. If one believes that life begins at conception, then one will perceive abortion to be morally wrong. Those who follow specific traits that make a person find abortion permissible. The question is not determined by a single point of view, but by several. This is why there will never be a single answer to the morality of abortion..
