The essay “My Father's Son” written by Jim Fergus, the essay by Nick Lyons titled “Finding Father”, “Every Time I Spill Red Wine I Panic” written by Stratis Haviaras and Peter Oresick's poem "My Father" all had a similar underlying theme; A son loses his father at an early age, seeks advice from his father. So when a father isn't present, who can a boy turn to for advice? A mother can only understand what her son is going through to a certain extent. When a young boy loses his father at a young age, he doesn't have the chance to know who his father is, so he begins to search for his father's identity. A boy or man looking for a father searches for himself within his father, because the father was unable to be part of the son's life, the son thus finds his own identity when he assumes himself the role of father. A boy learns how and what it means to be a man from his father. Fathers are able to give direction to their sons and the sons listen to their instructions because the father serves as a role model.
