Essay / Two Website Review - 1016
The process of reviewing websites is more than just looking at the page and deciding that it “looks” legitimate. According to GCU Library, the process of evaluating a website involves checking five categories: authority, accuracy, objectivity, currency, and coverage (LIBRARY). Each category requires you to look deeper than just a website's home page. I evaluated two websites, Womenshealth.com and Childtrends.org. I believe both of these sites are excellent sources of information because they demonstrate authority, accuracy, objectivity, timeliness and coverage. According to the GCU Library Tutorial (nd), each category evaluated when checking websites has distinct characteristics designed to help a person decide whether the website will be useful in the search process. The first point to check is the authority which is mainly interested in the author of the page. When evaluating authority, you should be able to verify the author's credentials as well as check if the page has a copyright credit (LIBRARY). Authority also consists of being able to contact either the author or the publisher by email, telephone or main (LIBRARY). Then the facts presented on the website must be verifiable, which is their accuracy (LIBRAY). This process seeks to find out if there is a site editor who verifies the information to ensure its accuracy (LIBRAY). According to GCU Library Tutorial (nd), researchers should also pay attention to the domain of the website to see if it is an organizational, commercial, or educational site. The next step is to see if the site has objectivity by trying to define what the objectives of the site (LIBRARY) are. The tutorial (nd) suggests that the researcher comment on whether the middle of the article is in-depth as it covers all the different aspects of teen pregnancy, from risks to pregnancy. how not to become a statistic (Women's Health Channel, nd).Works CitedHealthcommunities (nd).
