Essay / Do we have a choice? - 911
At any age, people have the opportunity to choose, and sometimes the choices you make will radically change your life, while in other situations the choice you choose to make will not affect your life at all. Although adolescents can sometimes make choices that will negatively affect them and those around them, having a wide opportunity for choice is extremely helpful for today's American adolescents. This is helpful because teens can find a way to solve problems in a mature way and will have the opportunity to make choices that help others, not just themselves. Teenagers will make bad choices here and there. Sometimes a person may think that he or she is making a good decision, but in reality, that choice affects more than one person and leads to undesirable consequences. In the text The Great Fire it says: “Schaffer glanced at the smoke, but dismissed the observation. They were the smoldering embers of the previous night's fire, he assured them. There's nothing to worry about. Schaffer's decision to ignore the first sighting of smoke, based on his thoughts, affected most of Chicago, resulting in the deaths of many residents. Having a choice does not mean you have complete control over your actions. In the same text it is stated that "Schaffer's young assistant, William J. Brown, stubbornly refused to hit box 319, saying he feared it would complicate the situation." Because William J. Brown did not hit the box, it led to chaos and the firefighter was unable to arrive at the fire in time to stop it. Having the ability to make a decision does not mean you have complete control over your choices. When you are told to do something, you have a responsibility to do it, unless it is something ridiculous that could put your life in danger. Teenagers can also make a choice to do something... middle of paper... that would put me on the right path to success. In conclusion, teenagers having the freedom to make their own choices has its own benefits. its disadvantages as well as its good sides. If someone is not capable of making a decision that is not right for them, they will never know how it feels and will not know that they should not do it again. Most teenagers know the right things to do, especially when it comes to helping others, like their elders. Additionally, they know that they need to think about the decisions they make and how the choice they make will affect them and those around them. There are approximately 600 students at Lorenzo Walker Technical High School. This means that approximately 600 teenagers chose to attend a school that would lead them on the right path. Essentially, having a wide range of choices is helpful for today's American teens..
