Rockefeller Junior illustrates the virtues by which he tried to live his life. In this statement he proclaims his disgust for people whose sole goal in life is greedy acquisition for the sole pleasure of wealth. It was therefore only natural that he would devote his life to philanthropy, which is in direct contrast to the greedy individuals he refers to in his quote. Through his philanthropy, he showed his dedication to his principles. John D. Rockefeller Junior was the fifth child and only son of John D. Rockefeller Senior and his wife, Laura Celestia Spelmen Rockefeller. He was born January 29, 1874 in Cleveland, Ohio.
