Answer to Emotionally Healthy SpiritualityI have lived among Christians all my life. More than half the people I know are Christians. God has taught me through my experience, before and after conversion, that there is work to be a follower of Christ. Peter Scazzero, in his book Emotionally Healthy Christianity, tells us that as Christians we often struggle more than we realize. Emotions touch every aspect of our lives and can control different aspects of us if we don't trust the God we say we love. Jesus said in Matthew 11, “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. Jesus said he would help lighten the burden, but he never said it would be easy. As Christians, we must love and trust Jesus in every way so that we can deny ourselves, yet find value in ourselves, and let the Holy Spirit work through us in all circumstances. . Emotions are and should be in every part of our lives. life. We would be lost without happiness, sadness, anger or even stupidity. John reminds us: “We love because God first loved us. (1 John 4:19) » Love is a big subject, there are many definitions of the word, and yet they are all good. If one devoted himself to the study of love, even earthly love, he would have more work than a lifetime to accomplish. Contemplating these things is essential to emotional maturity. Scazzero says that “contemplation and emotional health are different and yet overlap. In a very real sense, both are necessary to love God, love ourselves, and love others. (Scazzero, 46) » Godl... middle of paper ... these things, I believe the country could be turned upside down in a week. God wants us to love Him and to show our love to others in an emotionally healthy way. Doing this isn't always easy and I think that's the problem. Because it is not always easy, we must rely on and trust the Father's foresight for our lives rather than our own impulses. I think Scazzero hit the nail on the head with this idea. The Holy Spirit is alive and available to help us as we submit to the Father and trust in the work of Jesus. Doing this isn't always easy, but by trusting the things God says to us in our quiet moments and through our Christian community, we can live fruitful lives while remaining emotionally healthy in our spirit.
