IntroductionRacial discrimination is a real problem in American schools where African American students are segregated and their rights violated in many ways. Racial discrimination is particularly prevalent in public schools where the majority of students are of color. In these institutions, the government has failed to provide credible support, thus subjecting them to serious problems making the learning process almost impossible (Blank et al, p.108). The Departments of Justice and Education have admitted that serious problems are faced by children in most American schools. Positive discipline policies are implemented as a means to reduce instances of racial discrimination because it negatively affects student learning and ultimately leads to student failure. This proposal aims to investigate the extent of racial discrimination in public schools and then present possible solutions to this problem in American society. Statement of the Problem It should be noted that most of the students suspended and expelled from American schools are African Americans who are mistreated at school, thus making their school life problematic. Out of 100% of students in American schools, 63% of students expelled are African-American. Indeed, Blank et al (2004 p.108) argue that the significant gap in expulsion rates for African Americans compared to other races is an indication of inherent racial bias in the American school system. Education critics further argue that the American education system is particularly oppressive toward the African American child.
