I believe he would start by talking about being deceived, that regardless of Hobbes's belief that he knows when we are awake, there could be an evil demon deceiving Hobbes. Descartes would likely discredit Hobbes's claim that he is capable of more concrete, recurring thoughts when he is awake as opposed to when he is asleep. But Descartes says that he had dreams in which he did exactly the same thing while sleeping as when he was "awake." Even Hobbes experienced it, but some cannot relate to it. Even though Hobbes concretely lacks facts that allow him to know when he is awake and asleep, he claims that he has "faith" that he is happy with it. But Descartes does not seem to have really thought through all the opposing ideas and he disregards his own proof of a perfect being. The refutation of Descartes becomes less and less
