    Media is defined in one of the websites as “communication channels through which news, entertainment, educational information, data or promotional messages are broadcast. Media includes all broadcast and restricted media such as newspapers, magazines, television, radio, billboards, direct mail, telephone, fax, and the Internet.''(www.businessdictionary. com, 2013). Media around the world has a great impact on the way people believe, learn, communicate and interact with others. The media are indeed becoming the most popular tool to represent what is happening in the world across the entire planet and to influence people. Moreover, media today are used to create cultural, economic, political, social and intellectual values. However, each country uses media differently depending on its economic, political and cultural differences. Yet there is no doubt that media outlets around the world share the same fact that they are constrained by several external and structural forces that can shape their image. Furthermore, do the media represent reality? Well, the media does not accurately represent reality due to the external and structural forces that constrain it. This article aims to shed light on the external and structural forces weighing on the media in the world in general and in Oman in particular. These external forces are the state, economics and media ethics in conflicts. No one can ignore the impact of government forces on the media. Over the years, policies implemented by governments around the world have affected the way the media represents reality. However, not all countries provide sufficient budget for the media, which is why in countries like Pakistan, Bahrain and Oman, the media is less sufficient and less developed. Finally, media ethics in conflict is considered one of the external forces by which the media is influenced and affected. The number of existing conflicts in the world is increasing rapidly and no one can doubt that the media has contributed to making these conflicts more and more intense and aggressive. Some countries have further used the media to sell and manipulate victims for profit, disregarding the honest representation that the media should be committed to.
