  • Essay / Critical analysis of group work - 1636

After completing the group task of preparing a presentation on the transfer of individual facilitation skills into a group work environment, I will critically reflect on my own participation. I will evaluate my self-awareness while working in a group, as well as that of those around me. How I personally handled issues arising within the group and how it affected the group dynamic. I will also briefly discuss the roles assumed by each group member and the impact of role assignment, group dynamics, and working relationships. Finally, I will evaluate my work after discussing it with the other members of the group. In order to evaluate my role within the group, it is important to identify what constitutes a group. A group must first consist of more than three members: “Two members have personal relationships; with three or more, there is a change in the quality of the personal relationship. (Bion 1961, p26) The group must have a common goal or objective to be successful. Having now completed my group work task, I can look back and reflect on the process my group followed to arrive at the final point of the presentation. . My group had to form first (Kottler, Englar-Carlson 2010 p.93). There are many theories about how groups come together and the stages they go through. Tuckman is a commonly used theory due to the simple nature of his five-step theory. Tuckman believes that for a group to form, it must go through its five stages: formation, storming, normalization and execution (Tuckman 1965 p.17). In 1977, alongside Jensen, Tuckman added grieving to his process. Tuckman's theory of development states: "In the first stage of developing or organizing a team, individuals come together to lay the ground...... middle of paper .... ..in groups and other documents.
