    Millions of animals are unnecessarily tested for cosmetics, even though there are many alternatives available and most results are unreliable or do not apply to humans. Although the fight against animal testing has made tremendous progress recently, America has yet to end this cruel practice and chooses to torture animals while other countries stop testing (“Animal Testing 101"). Currently, millions of mice, rats, rabbits, primates, cats, dogs and other animals are locked in cold, sterile cages in laboratories across the country. They languish in pain, suffer from loneliness, and long to move freely and use their minds. Instead, all they can do is sit and wait, in fear of the next terrifying and painful procedure that will be performed on them. ("Animal Testing 101") Animal testing for products has been taking place since the 1920s, and cosmetic testing has been taking place since 1938 (Murnaghan, "Animal Testing Timeline"), meaning millions of animals every year since the 1920s have been cruelly treated. and unnecessarily tested. This unnecessary and cruel torture of animals must stop; animals shouldn't have their corneas burned so people can get mascara and blush, especially when there are other, more effective and accurate testing options.
