  • Essay / Understanding the functionality of the three branches...

In 1787, state leaders came together to establish a constitutional set of guidelines (laws), to ensure a more structured and uniform way to protect the American people against total government. control and protection of citizens' rights. The constitution ensured that the branches would be separated to move away from the total control of one branch of government. Each branch of government has its own duties and responsibilities other than working alongside the other branches. Below identifies the three branches of government along with their responsibilities and the process for being elected to membership. Legislative power The legislative power is made up of two bodies; the Senate and the House of Representatives. Their primary responsibility is to develop and amend laws that will be adopted and enforced by other branches of government. The Legislature also oversees military operations and funding, to help protect the United States of America. The legislature helps fund the armed forces and protect the men and women who serve by enacting policies and laws for their specific branch of the military. This special duty - helping the armed forces - gives me the freedom every day to go to school, work at an institution of my choice and gives me the ultimate freedom that my country is proud of for future generations. I consider the protection afforded to me by those who serve selflessly to be the most rewarding gift I have ever received and, unfortunately, I often take it for granted. An interesting fact I realized while researching this topic is that the legislature is the only branch of government that can declare war. Members of the legislative branch are elected by the state of re...... middle of paper ....people who are there until they decide otherwise. I would also give the president less power over electing members and instead let people vote to represent them to the best of their ability. This will ensure equal voice to different groups and states of representation. In all honesty, I believe that the way members should be elected should be the same uniform process that is discussed within the legislative branch. In conclusion, the three branches of government serve as a safeguard against the ultimate control of one part of the government. Each branch of government is responsible for different aspects of implementing, enforcing, and changing laws. They work together to ensure the public is protected, no branch is more important than another. Instead, they work side by side on their responsibilities and duties, which are interconnected to each other..
