  • Essay / Harry Harlow Experiment: Experiment - 796

The experiment I am going to explore is the Harry Harlow Experiment. The Harlow theme of his experiment targeted the ideal of attachment between animals; humans and apes. The need and different types of attachments. Harlow focused on how this affected the brain both negatively and positively depending on variables and individual differences. Harlow conducted experiments on baby monkeys to see how their behavior would evolve if they did not have the influence of a mother monkey. Harlow placed the baby monkeys in different crates containing a wire mother and a cloth mother. These objects represented the touch of a real mother monkey. While observing the monkeys' behavior, Harlow noticed that there were things similar to that of children, such as social withdrawal. Harlow performed numerous tests and found that hormone levels in some of the isolated monkeys were much higher than those in unseparated monkeys. In the match, some growth hormone levels were lower in most isolated monkeys and higher in normal monkeys. Harlow observed the monkeys throughout their lives, including during the growth phase from adolescent to adult, to see what kind of waves they would emit. in the social environment as adults. Harlow noticed that the monkeys were behaving very strangely. They demonstrated no normal reproductive activity and many females bred and became very poor mothers and did not attempt to care for or even protect their offspring. While studying the monkeys, Harlow noticed that there was an intense attachment to the cover. He noticed that the monkeys appreciated the comfort of the blanket. This can be seen as a maternal bond. The blanket is of course not the monkey's mother but the touch and comfort it provides is similar......middle of paper......disrespect to the other little children around him, however this will easily change if he starts spending more time with those his own age. Another example is a prison, this is the place where many people have gone crazy and become unstable due to lack of social development. Often, when these people are reintegrated into society, they cannot function properly and start making the same mistakes again. To summarize, it is important for us to maintain a connection with others like us human apes, no matter what. By having this connection, we gain security in ourselves and have the confidence to move forward in life. Because the monkeys benefiting from this security prevented them from going crazy and gave them some peace of mind. As we grow up, we especially need our mothers to guide us and be there for us so that when we are alone we can function properly in society..
