    They both lived a long time and saw many things that influenced their philosophies. John Locke believed that people had the ability to choose between being good or evil. There will never be someone powerful enough to control every action a person takes, even with power, a person's actions come down to a person's morals and their ability to understand what actions are considered right. Thomas Hobbes's philosophy was always to believe that people are born evil and that no good can come to a person in the state of nature without rules or a leader.
