    So we can expect this to be a short term problem, but the effects of underemployment on individuals should never be underestimated. SIOP member Aleksandra Luksyte even conducted research to prove that underemployment of overqualified graduates leads to serious loss of motivation. She recruited 215 working adults to analyze the link between underemployment and skill level and draw the following conclusion: “Overqualified employees become cynical about the meaning of their work because they feel like they come to work every day and waste their time and skills.” She also added that overqualified people often try to engage in additional activities so that their overqualified skills are used productively.
