In the tale Lord of the Flies by William Golding, while trying to escape their boarding school during World War II, many British schoolchildren find themselves stranded on an island after the disaster of a plane crash. Soon, innocent children die, society collapses, and anarchy reigns. The dominant characters in Lord of the Flies, Jack and Ralph, are two boys of the same age who constantly fight for power throughout the novel. While Ralph has some rescue skills, Jack has survival skills that allow him to live a moderate life while stranded on the island. Jack also accomplishes a lot while living on the island, such as starting a tribe, while Ralph only manages to light a small fire on top of a mountain in an attempt to be saved. Considering these facts, Jack is the best leader in Lord of the Flies. Both Jack and Ralph exhibit leadership skills; however, Jack has more useful skills.
