In George Orwell's novel 1984, his relationship with Julia proved to be an outlet for his rebellion and hatred towards the Party. Winston and Julia's affiliation did not contribute to his eternal destiny, but did aid him in his quest against the Party. He never knew true pleasure until he met Julia – for once in his life he escaped the regime of daily routine of unhappiness and finally had the chance to enjoy his life, but was ultimately brainwashed into loving the Party, the Ministry of Love. and the Ministry of Truth. He develops a feeling of hatred towards Julia and ultimately his fate was decided by the Party, through the torture and devaluation of Winston. His own desire to know the past swallows up his rebellion and revolt against the Party, also playing an important role in his destiny. The Party prevented his relationship from thriving successfully through control and power. It controlled everything from the relationship with Winston, and ultimately determined its outcome. When Winston was having a secret relationship with Julia, he developed a painful ulcer....
