Essay / Key Aspects of a Totalitarian Society - 948
The key aspects of a totalitarian society are that the government holds the power and enforces ideas, a concept originally created to treat everyone equally. Russia, Germany and China before the World Wars are examples of such governments. The fictional society depicted in Any Rand's short story Anthem features a similar society that separates individuals from families. The author envisioned the motive for creating a collectivist society in the novel from his experience in the Soviet Union. Collectivism suppresses individual thoughts and freedom. To do their job successfully, leaders divide families to inject new ideas and educate the youth so that the government can spend its life controlling its citizens. Ultimately, a strong unity of ideas is built and prevents rebellions. Totalitarian leaders detach children from their families to suppress new ideas for their own benefit, wanting no one to possess knowledge beyond that required by the government. Parents are solely responsible for the rudimentary development of a child's characteristics and emotions through careful nurturing. From this point of view, the separation method is adequate since it prevents children from having new ideas outside of the group members. Family-centered education will differentiate the levels and content of material received by each child. It is therefore impossible to deny that this would result in unique personality formation. Especially among young people, the way they develop their traits is strongly influenced by family context, such as religious beliefs or perspectives, which again highlights the importance of separation. Any Rand failed to endure his own life under repression, so his desire to obtain unlimited education and freedom prompted him to immigrate to the United States and...... middle of paper. ..... Otherwise, Japanese totalitarian society will face revolution. and that’s what was done!. Collectivist societies established by leaders arising from separation are maintained by suppressing new ideas, forming unity, and preventing rebellion. The anthem and history have proven that these methods oppress freedom, making it impossible not to deny the reoccurrence of such unpleasant incidents. Collectivism must be negated no matter what, so that the same situation does not happen again. Anthem is the author's message to reject them. Any Rand moved to the United States seeking individualism, much like Prometheus fleeing into the uncharted forest to find freedom. The actions of seeking freedom were the greatest action that enlightened them into a new world of individualism, which everyone should follow and never forget. Works Cited Rand, Ayn. Anthem.
